Biennale Arte 2022: The Milk of Dreams

Britta Marakatt-Labba participated in the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Cecilia Alemani. Her presentation featured two new embroidered works, Milky Way and In the Footsteps of the Stars, both created in 2021.
The Milk of Dreams
Marakatt-Labba’s works explored the relationship between Sámi cultural history and the Nordic landscape. Milky Way and In the Footsteps of the Stars presented landscapes, flora, fauna, stars and Sámi figures within circular compositions inspired by the projection of maps and the form of the eye.
Through embroidery, Marakatt-Labba combined visual storytelling with memories, traditions and contemporary perspectives, connecting Sámi cultural history with the present.
