Sylkvasse sting / Moving the Needle

Britta Marakatt-Labba’s exhibition Sylkvasse sting / Moving the Needle at The National Museum in Oslo was the largest presentation of her work to date. Spanning five decades of her practice, the exhibition brought together embroidery and other textile works, prints, installations and sculpture.
Moving the Needle
The exhibition presented works from across Marakatt-Labba’s career, from her early sketches and drawings to recent works. Among the iconic works on view were Garjját / The Crows (1981) and Girddi noaiddit / Flying Shamans (1986). At the centre of the exhibition was Historjá, the monumental 24-metre-long embroidery depicting scenes from Sámi history, mythology and everyday life.
