Britta Marakatt-Labba’s participation in documenta 14 marked a major international breakthrough in her career. She presented works in both Athens and Kassel, bringing her Sámi perspective and distinctive narrative practice to an international audience.
Historjá
At the centre of Marakatt-Labba’s presentation was Historjá, a 24-metre-long embroidered narrative depicting Sámi history, culture and contemporary life. The work moves between myth, memory and current events, reflecting the relationship between people, land and the changing conditions of life in Sápmi.
